I have lived all my adult life in Melbourne but grew up in regional Victoria in a family with a love of both reading and history. Both my parents had the gift of story telling and through them the past came alive for me. By the time I reached my teens I was a voracious reader of both non-fiction and historical fiction, appreciating best those authors who create compelling characters in vivid settings which are still true to the time and place in which they are set.
I have had several career changes in my life – from nurse to tax assessor to, finally, public librarian. On most days being a librarian is the best job in the world as I meet a wide variety of people, get to help them discover a range of interesting things and, best of all, talk to them about books. I have a Master of Arts in history and am also a family history obsessive.
